Refining Process

Refining Process

RR Industries Base Oil Refinery processes used lubricating oil and employs state-of-the-art and best available technology. which is 4-Stage Evaporator Distillation followed by 125-bar Hydro-Treatment, yielding Group II Base Oils. RR Industries has engineered and built the entire turn-key refinery. The refinery applies the Zero Waste Principle and utilises best available refining technology in a source-efficient manner.

Using the best available technology, the refinery is providing base oils with the lowest carbon, water, and waste footprints on the market.

FEEDSTOCK

Used Lubricating Oil is accepted into the refinery after rigorous Quality Control (QC) in the Refinery’s Accredited Laboratory.

Used Oil is stored in the refinery tank farm (ULO) until sent to the process.
DISTILLATION PROCESS
Dehydration(D1)
Removal of contaminants, Water(H2O)and a Light Fuel (LF)fraction

Low Vacuum Falling Film Evaporation(D2)
Recovery of Light Base Distillate (LBD) from the dehydrated oil by evaporation
High Vacuum Falling Film Evaporation(D3)
Recovery of Heavy Base Distillate (HBD) by evaporation

Short Path Wiped Film Evaporation (D4)
Recovery of Extra Heavy Base Distillate (XHBD) by evaporation , leaving an Asphaltic Residue (AR)
HYDRO-TREATMENT
High Pressure Hydro-Treatment(HT1,HT2)
Removal of sulphur, chlorine, nitrogen, phosphorous, silica and saturation of atomatics employing special catalysts at 125 bar.

Fractionation(FT)

Separation of Medium Base Oil, Light Base Oil and Spindle Oil for sale, and Light Fuel for process energy.

Hydro-Treatment involves reaction of Hydrogen with oil, in our case Distillate from Used Lubricating Oil, under defined pressure and temperature conditions in the presence of proprietary metallic catalysts.

Following the reactions in specially designed reactors, the Hydrogen is recycled back to the reactors. With the help of Hydrogen, the Distillate are saturated and impurities removed, resulting in Base Oils with high purity and quality.
Hydrogen Production

Hydrogen is produced onsite. The unit is fully automated, operates based on the principle of Methane Steam Reforming(MSR) to pure Hydrogen(H2)by Highly Integrated Steam Reforming Technology. The Hydro-Treatment Unit at the refinery works with continuous feed of pure Hydrogen from the Reformer.

By-Products

The Light Fuel (LF) is used as fuel in the process plant.

The Distillation Water (H2O) is treated to remove all contaminants .

Process off-gases and the very light hydrocarbons are also used for the energy requirements of the Refinery.
